Expanding E-Government through Interoperability

Expanding e-Government through Progeos Interoperability

E-Government is the use of information technology (internet, computer and database systems) by governments to provide and improve its services to the public.  These tools can include online permitting, online mapping, property research, land management or online service requests.

E-Government can be a very efficient tool for local governments but at times is hampered by “legacy systems.”  These are the result of prior investment in proprietary technologies and databases that are outdated.  Often these systems only read in and publish certain data formats that other software cannot read without an expensive data translator.

Progeos provides a web-enabled solution that uses interactive mapping solutions and municipal management systems to expand a municipality’s e-Government outreach to its businesses and residents.  Progeos software are able to use data and information from these legacy systems without data conversion, saving a local government countless dollars on data and software upgrades.

To unlock the data in these legacy systems, Progeos can connect  over 170 GIS and database formats to its online mapping, permitting, service request and code enforcement services.  By using the web, this legacy data is available to municipal departments and residents.

The benefits of Progeos interoperability to e-Government include:

  • The integration of systems and programs running different data formats
  • Leveraging the benefits from existing systems
  • Sharing data and processes across municipal departments
  • Saving local governments time and money in setting up and providing e-Government services

Progeos eliminates the middleware needed to translate data formats between systems, lowering costs and improving the efficiency of e-Government.  For more information on lowering costs through data interoperability visit www.progeos.com
